Many tests come with a time limit, and all securities exams do, so you have to learn to work within them. The fear and anxiety that can stem from worry about not getting done can take away your focus. First, you have to realize that you can use that full time period, so don’t get in a rush. There will always be a few people that finish lightning fast for any test. Don’t let that make you feel rushed to get done. You really don’t know what their overall grade is. Getting done early doesn’t mean they knew it all.
Keep in mind that the administrator of the test isn’t going to put you into a position where you can’t finish the test. The time limit is going to be reasonable based on that type of test. This should help you to put your mind at ease. Being well prepared for the test will help you to get through it with time remaining. Studying for the test leading up to it is a great option. Take good notices, make flash cards, and review your information for short periods of time each day.
Make sure you have everything you need for the test. You need to have at least two pencils. If you can use a calculator or any formulas, have them with you so that you can benefit from those additional items. The use of scratch paper can help you to make sure your thought process flows well and to check your work.
Take a watch with you to the test so that you don’t have to look around for a clock in the room. Depending on the instructor, they may call out when you have a certain amount of time remaining. The idea is to pace yourself so that you can get through the test without rushing. Go through the sections of the test. Complete what you can first and skip items that you don’t know off hand. Make sure you mark them well so you know where to go back to.
By completing what you do know for sure first, this helps to increase your overall score on the test. If you do have to leave any answers blank, it is best that they are the ones you weren’t sure of and not ones that you definitely could have answered correctly.
Take your time to read the instructions for each section so that you do the work correctly. Look for overall point values as your time remaining is reduced. For example, if there is a 100 point essay question, you need to make sure you complete it successfully. It may be better to spend the time you have on that instead of on definitions that are worth 25 points.
Depending on the type of test you are taking, there may be practice ones online that you can use. This is a great way for you to see how far you get in the exam relating to the timeframe. Such practice can significantly help with reducing your anxiety about running out of time.
